GE Aerospace Engineer In Site (FAMAT) - Production Technologies – Combustor and Structural Components (CSC) in Montoir-de-Bretagne, France

Job Description Summary

FAMAT is a joint venture between GENERAL ELECTRIC (GE) and SAFRAN AIRCRAFT ENGINES, two major players in the field of aeronautical propulsion. The company specialises in the industrialisation and mass production of high-tech fixed structure parts (casings) for aircraft engines (turbojets) including high-power GE engines (GE90, GEnX, GE9X) and CFM engines (CFM56 and LEAP)

We are actively recruiting for a Combustor and Structural Parts Design Resident Engineer who will demonstrate accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives.

In this role you will integrate and develop processes that meet strategic business needs, manage issues within functional area(s) of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy for the combustor and structural parts commodity.

This position requires cross-functional collaboration with the CSC (Combustor and Structures Components) Value Stream counterparts to improve the producibility, quality, and delivery of combustor and structural parts.

Qualified candidates for this hands-on role will identify areas of improvements to both GE processes and procedures in the areas of engineering, supply chain quality, and manufacturing.

This position is for the Engineer in the shop (EIS) role located at the FAMAT production facility in Saint-Nazaire, France and will be reporting to a Production Technologies CSC Sub Section Manager based in West Chester, Ohio.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Act as on-site engineering liaison to improve communication and cooperation between engineering and supply chain

  • Work with shops, suppliers, and engineering colleagues to meet producibility and process capability targets.

  • As the shop engineering representative, drive a high rigour into the manufacturing and design integration process and identify and drive manufacturing support activities to ensure long term on-time engine delivery.

  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. This work would include mechanical engineering for all products within the manufacturing site's purview.

  • Uses high level of judgement to make decisions and handle low to moderate complexity tasks or problems in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering.

  • Have high levels of interaction with and exposure to engineers from multiple disciplines, manufacturing & quality, and regularly exposed to commodity and industry experts.

  • Use engineering judgement and experience to challenge entrenched processes and methodology to recommend improvements.

  • Utilise in-depth knowledge of engineering & manufacturing, analytical thinking, and technical experience to execute on technically low to moderate complexity projects to meet technical requirements and business goals under oversight of senior engineers.

  • Lead technical projects with low to moderate complexity through collaboration with field and industry experts.

  • Explain information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field. Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.

  • Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

  • Work with the Manufacturing shop to proactively integrate design engineering and manufacturing producibility aspects and propose process improvements and or design specifications updates or changes.

  • Proactively look ahead to identify potential future producibility issues and identify abatement's.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in STEM related subjects

  • Significant experience in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials, or Manufacturing Engineering.

  • Fluent French & English

Desired Characteristics

  • Previous experience in design of combustor and/or structural components

  • Experience in manufacturing, especially of combustor and/or structural components

  • Flexible and friendly approach to working in teams

  • Experience with Ansys and Unigraphics

  • Experience with GD&T

  • Interest in being a self-starter with a passion for problem solving and driving solutions, while constantly learning and mentoring others.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs

  • Established project management skills

  • Experience with Material Review Board Activities
